cars i like

toyota/scion/lexus

first gen rav4

It's adorable. A car that was marketing at the surfing youth which is my favorite genre of car. I'd do anything to have the stumpy two door one.

t100

Predates the Tacoma. One of the smaller full size pickups at the time. Came with three engine options: 2.7L I4, 3.0L V6, or 3.4L V6. Available in 4WD or RWD. 150-190hp. I just think they're cute. Unfortunately, Toyota frames are no good, so many of these trucks don't exist anymore.

Tc

My grandma had one of these in the popular purple that Scion sold. Nothing too notable, and they're not the most tuneable cars.

xB (I drive one!!)

What a shitbox that I can't help, but adore. I own a second gen which is the generation of Toyota that they didn't overengineer everything, so I cannot do anything to her. Her towing capacity is "don't." Four grown adults riding in it almost reaches the weight limit of the car. It's a Corolla with more weight added to it and reduced aerodynamics, but I still love her.

xD

Mechanically the same as the xB, but much lighter.

xA

Same as xD. Scion was not making mechanically interesting cars.

third gen 4runner

These are swaggy as hell. Also a usual victim to the Toyota frame rot. Finding a clean one is somewhat uncommon. Available in with a 2.7L I4 or a 3.4L V6. Most of them are V6. Japan got diesel ones, and they're under the name "Hilux Surf."

tercel

I can just see the essences of the Echo in it. I guess I could say.. I can hear the echo...

land cruiser v8 diesel (LC 75)

70 series Land Cruisers have been built since the 80s. They're available in so many body variants it's insane. They didn't get the VD engine until 2007 though. Available with single turbo non-intercooled, single turbo, and twin turbos.

lexus ct 200h

It's just a Prius, but luxury.

nissan/datsun

cube

Built on the B platform in collaboration with Renault. Available in gas and diesel. This car sold really poorly outside of Japan.

datsun's Zs

BADASS RWD CAR. I am not loyal to one generation or the other. I am loyal to DATSUN. Obviously, the JDM ones are cooler.

suzuki

samurai

First car by Suzuki sold in the US. More cost effective than a Jeep at the time, and more swag imo. It's downfall was how easily is rolled. It also only had 63HP.

cappuccino

Kei-sized sports car. 3-cyl turbocharged engine with chains rather than belts. It's so cute.

mighty boy

543cc Kei-class with an I3 engine. Classified as a "utilty coupe" .... so a ute! Another ute to the collection of utes I need.

mazda

miata

THE car for the spirited drive. Never to be boosted. They are perfect as is.

rx7

I like the boxy ones more than the more popular 90s rx7s...

mitsubishi

pajero evo

Paris Dakar Rally car first then normal commercially available car second. A part of rally is that the cars developed must have a certain number of road legal and commercially available units. The Pajero Evo is a capable rally raid vehicle having the most Dakar rally wins of any car. Only available with a 3.5L 24-valve V6 and 5-speed manual because well.. it's a rally car. These will be available to import into the US in 2027.

GSX

Saw one of these as a safety car for the ARA in LSPR. It was so fucking cool.

volkswagen

GTI golf

Cute little turbocharged hatchback. They're just a Golf, but with more oomph.

rabbit truck

LOOK AT IT!! IT'S PERFECT

porsche

944

All models are equipped with an I4 with 2.5L, 2.7L, or 3.0L. 944 turbo had.. well.. a turbo!

audi

sport quattro

This car was developed for Group B rally. It has an inline 5 engine. It's so cool. Michele Mouton drove this.

a1 (rally)

Saw one do rally. They go "GRATATATATTATATATATA" and everyone thinks they're misfiring but they just sound like that. 5cyl I think?

a4 tdi

I like TDIs.. I want a 1.9TDI.

rs4 avant

I don't think this was ever available in the US, but it's so swag. Twin-turbo V6 with a displacement of 2.7L. It's got 375 horses in that thing. Stiffened suspension, big brakes, and a 6-speed manual transmission. It's a swag wagon worth a shag or two in it.

a2

Ugly shitbox that I can't help but love.

chevy/geo/daewoo

prizm

Rebadged from the Toyota Sprinter. Geos were just cheap cars. They're cutie. Not good tho.

cavalier

A shitbox with a sad face. I love them only for that. They are not good, and they tried to make some cop cars. Imagine getting chased by this sad faced car.

metro

THE Geo. Also the car that looks like me the most.

tracker

Cutie tip-over-machines.

matiz

AKA Chevy/Holden Spark, Pontiac Matiz, Chevy Lechi, etc etc. It's one of those rebadged imports. As you could guess, they're powered by an I3 or I4 engine.

espero

First car to be developed by Daewoo. It's unfair that I have put it under Chevy, but this car never got rebadged. These are extremely rare due to several expensive or electrical problems like ABS.

leganza

Executive car available only in Korea and the UK. Again, unfair that I have kept it under Chevy. I think it looks like a weird bug, and the taillights remind me of the Toyota Echo's.

astrovan

COOL VAN!!!

gmc

classic jimmy

One of the frist offroading SUVs. I think they're really cool. They're probably my classic car of choice. I'd take this over a classic muscle any day.

lancia

EVO37

Kimera's restomod of the rally classic, Lancia 037.

stratos

Hottest rally car ever.

delta (integrale)

Rally versions dominated Group A and Group B rally in the 80s. It's so fucking cool. The standard consumer versions look cool also.

daihatsu

mira

Kei hatchback

holden

commodore

Not actually that special. I saw two at a Cars + Coffee, and it was wild to see them. I like the utes.

opel

corsa

Egg car.

bugatti

bolide

I don't like Bugattis really, but this track car is so fucking cool. It showed up at St. Moritz being led by a Fiat Panda which is funny.

honda/acura

first gen crv

They have such a silly look to them. I can't help but to kick my feet when I see one.

rsx

I don't know much about these. I just like them. Research to be done.

city

Tiny hatch that came with the motocompo.

beat

Cute kei car. Usually THE kei car people think of.

accord wagon

I think the Accord on its own is really boring, but this wagon is swaggy as hell.

subaru

baja (dream car!)

I have a shrine for this car.

impreza

How can you not love these? Their anti-lag is disgustinnnnnggggg mmm

forester

Old foresters have swag.

crosstrek

I like the orange sunshine subie. Very practical + good car.

XT

Research to be done. I like the weird look of it.

saab

9-3

I am obsessed with Saabs. Swedish cars have a special place in my heart. Parts are really hard to find, but they're pretty reliable.

9-2x (it's actually a subie)

The easiest to fix of all of the Saabs. Built in Subaru plant by Subaru.

9-3 viggen

I think double turbo? The headlights have wipers also.

volvo

200 series

I like the Swedish flying bricks.

s80 w/ V8

The S80 had a Yamaha V8 put into it in its second generation. This was a dogshit car with major issues. I still like it. Even with all their issues, I love Swedish cars.

bmw

classic m3

Sexy, swagalicious, cool guy shit. How can you hate this thing?

328D

An insanely reliable diesel BMW. It comes as a sedan or wagon, and I prefer the wagon.

mercedes

300td

DIESEL WAGON!!!!!!!!

glk

One of few valid crossovers. It's RWD, 7-speed auto, and 302HP. It does weigh 4,000lbs..

gt3

The next GT3 has a lot of expectations since the current one has been extremely successful since 2016. It's powered by a 6.3L V8 that churns 550HP.

ford

escort cosworth

RALLY CAR!! It's so cute.

current gen mustang

I actually really like it.. I think it looks hot.

capri

A classic pony car. Saw one do rally with the original V8 in it. It's really small.

bronco II

It's the first gen Ranger with shit on it. Parts are cheap. These are cheap. It's Ford. Good for baby's first resto. Perfect for me.

p100

ANOTHER UTE! Extremely coveted + pretty common to put a Pinto engine in it. A modified P100 set the world record for the fastest coffee powered vehicle. It didn't run on caffeine. The linked article explains it better than I could.

dodge

dakota

Tiny truck with a V8 in it. A troublemaker.

jaguar

xj

Pictured is a 308, but it is not limited to 308s. Earlier generations of this car has been dubbed a "Cool Car for Cool Guys in 2026" by James, former Donut Media guy. I think they're cool in a slammed, sketchy euro car way. Of course, be mindful of British cars. They are not the most reliable. These are powered by a V8 which can come with a supercharger. It's a 240+ HP saloon, but it weighs almost 4000lbs so it sucks up all of that power. If you want it to be a little quick and badass, you need the supercharger which brings you to 370HP.

fiat

multipla

Weird looking thing.

131 abarth

The coolest fiat ever. Was a rally car.

mini

cooper S

I am a Mini lover. I don't care what anyone says. Yes, they're stupidly expensive to fix. Old Minis are unreliable. They're cute though. The Cooper S (built on a BMW platform) is fast as fuck. Minis also have little hype videos for themselves that play on the screen in the car. I just think they're so cute. They capture that market of people that love their stupid little cars like the VW Beetle.

countryman cooper S

Slightly bigger. Rear hatch doors which is something I love in cars. It's just more utilitarian than the standard Cooper.

kia

stinger

Did not know that Kia had this kind of heat.

rio

Piece of shit car I love it.

hyundai

N VISION 74

A concept car that might be in production now? I think if I saw this in the streets, my knees would buckle.

Grandeur restomod

SO COOOOOOOOOOL

elantra N

I actually don't know much about this car other than it actually looks kinda swag. The baby blue is really interesting. I want to see Hyundai's trend forecasts slidedecks tbh.

peugeot

106

Cute.

skoda

fabia rs (rally2)

These are fast as fuck. I watched Connor Martell race in a Fabia, and it's crazy. It's a 1.6L 4cyl. 4WD with mechanical self-locking differentials. It sounds insane in person.

renault

twingo

FROG CAR

5

Idk much about them. I just think they're cute.

ineos

grenadier

Built by a guy that desires to have the old Land Rovers back. This car is for the adventurous, but also the rich. The features are very basic, but controlled by an aircraft-looking interior. There's no power steering. The engine bay is tight. It's not perfect by any means. However, it is cool.

dream cars that I'll never own

(and that's okay)
diesel 9-3 w/ twin turbos

Never made it to the USA. Not worth to import either.

interesting cars spotted

spotted in the wild. not in auto shows. like, i saw these cars driving on the street or parked on the street.
nissan GTR r34

Spotted in the night while I was working my bartending gig. Sounded magical. Can't explain its deep growls. You have to witness it.

mclaren spyder

Parked down the street from my house. Unsure of its origin. Haven't seen it since. It looked so out of place next to clapped out Hondas. No one was around it either. Truly showed up, and somehow there was full trust in street parking?

pagani zonda

Spotted from my bartending job during the day. Made little noise. I whipped by head so hard to look at it that it hurt. I had to rub my eyes and pinch myself. By far, the most expensive car I have seen outside of a car show. The most expensive car I have ever seen including car shows is a Bugatti Veyron. Mind you, I'm not that into super/hyper cars.

my car philosophy

The reason I like cars is because of the soul that they tend to have. This soul comes from the love put in by the many people that touch a car or machine. You can tell when the designers and engineers put love into a machine. That is the first step for it to start to gain its soul.

The soul is expanded when the marketing team markets the machine with love. For example, the old Yaris commercials that portrayed the hatchback and sedan versions as Spy vs Spy. So much love!

The main source for a machine's soul growth are its owners. The owners of a car bring true life to it whether it's through customization or knowing the machine's habits. Half of why I love seeing cars is seeing how the owner loves their car.

There are definitely cars that suck as machines, but if they have someone that loves them, then why hate? I appreciate all well-loved cars.
