March 2026
it needs to stop snowing. published on march 30, 2026
March wasn't anything too crazy. Quite mellow actually. I'm kinda worried that I won't have much to talk about for this blog post.
illness
It started slow, but eventually, I had signs of illness. I am pretty confident that it was covid, but it wasn't nearly as bad as any other past covid instances. I just like to whine when I'm ill. I also really don't like being sick because it makes me really nervous about the possibility of it getting worse. I had the flu like a couple of times before, and I was terrified. The flu made it so I was asleep for two days. I thought I was dying. That was the one year that I did get the flu shot. I had never gotten it before... Not sure why. I just never got it when I was growing up. I also wasn't a kid that got strep throat. I just got the annual cold and then various strange things. Chickenpox beat my ass as a tiny kid though.
To clarify, I DO have my other vaccines. I just have weird vibes with the flu vaccine specifically, but nothing like actually rational. I think I am going to get the flu if I get the shot. I haven't had the shot since, and I haven't had the flu since. I was supposed to get my covid boosters, but I keep forgetting. It was hard when I worked because I was always right out of covid, so I would have to wait to get the booster then forget then get covid again.
weather
The northern states got a march blizzard. This happens every other year or so. Might as well be every year. There's nothing as crazy as the 2018 May blizzard. Yes, May. I was in high school still, and it was an early start day. Imagine a snow day in May. So much for April showers...
This blizzard was promising. All of the weather people were freaking out about it. When they do that, Minnesotans will dismiss them often. I mean, we've had the promise of horrible storms in the past few years, but none have come true. Weather is unpredictable, but climate change has been making our winters more brown than white. This has been happening since I was about 12. I think that's when we had the first "brown Christmas" that I can recall. I was really distraught about it. Florida child upset that there's no snow on Christmas in her home in Minnesota. I still get upset as an adult when it's not snowy enough around the holidays.
The blizzard was a surprise to me. I was more focused on the weather down south, and I'm not that into the models for snow storms. I forget all of my weather interests in the fall and winter. It's like a hyperfixation that goes dormant.
We were projected to get up to 18" of snow which would have put it on a list of some of the worst blizzards in the state. We didn't get that much, but we still got a lot of fucking snow. It was about 9". Leading up to the storm, we had a high wind warning. It had gusts up to 74mph. My little weather station measured a 28mph gust. The reason for the wind storm was a rapid cooling in the atmosphere. Warm air is less dense than cold air, so the steep gradient between the two causes windy conditions. The wind storm only lasted about an hour, and it was at 5am. I heard some of it. The sun rose, and we found roof shingles on the ground. They were from our roof. Now, we're getting a new roof even though the landlords should have done that when they bought the place. They should also buy us a fucking washing machine because we've been out of one for three months now, but no they're going to talk about having IVF baby number two while saying that they "don't have $400-$600 lying around for a washer." Our rent for both units pays their mortgages, and then they both have salaries that I could only ever dream of having. No sympathy for landlords. Their financial incompetence and choice to have a child is not the tenants fault.
ANYWAYS SNOW
The snow came as the landlord climbed onto the roof to put a tarp over the naked part of the roof. It was gentle at first then poured down. It snowed for like two days I think? It was a good dumping of snow. The city had brought out strange contraptions to plow. They only bring these out to do the corners of intersections on the fourth day of a snow emergency, but they were out doing normal plowing because there was the demand for it.
I don't go on reddit often, but I have been told that every time there's a snow storm, an image of MnDOT or Minneapolis plows synchronizing on a freeway ends up on the front page... or Minneapolis people getting of a Metro Transit bus to push it out of the snow. Both are swaggy. It's just funny that it happens all of the time. Here's a facebook boomer meme about it.
Towards the end of the storm, the household gathered to build a creeper out of snow. It lasted about a day. It collapsed as it melted crushing one of the lawn flamingoes I put around it. All of the snow only stuck around for a couple of days. It was miserably swampy afterwards. Now, we're on false spring... like.. five? We have more snow coming at the end of this week. I'm pissed about it. If it snows in May and kills my garden, I'm going to burn a data center in minecraft or like not pay my federal taxes in minecraft.
fun stuffz
It was my partner's birthday this month, so I organized with the neighbor's to go take him to play with a skidloader. It was too muddy to use it, but we will do it in the future. It was my neighbor's dad's place. He's in the middle of nowhere with lots of doodads and cars to amuse ourselves with. There's also annoying in-laws of his that aren't related to my neighbor. Her step mom is kind of evil and her dad doesn't believe in divorce so he's stuck in a loveless marriage with a woman that tries to control the world. I barely talked to her, but she was no fun and very miserable. The in-laws like to lurk around too cause they're nosy. We hunted down some rims for a Honda Fit that has entered the collection of cars that live on our property. They found some rims of a Saab 9000 that will mostly fit the Fit.
We got beers, shitboxes, and lots of land to fuck around on though. I'm not sure if I ever talked about the straight-piped Chevy Aveo on here. It's my neighbor's car after a deer hit is VW Rabbit. Aveo is on my cars page. It's a Daewoo egg shaped car. This specific Aveo is the worst looking car from 2008. It's rusting out. It sucks. Makes it the perfect car to fuck around with! The interior was ripped out. It was straight-piped with a cherry bomb, and the exhaust leaks into the cabin. It's so fucking loud. It was retired to this piece of property last summer, and all it does is get blasted down dirt paths. It was too muddy to go too crazy with it, but we did some of it. A cousin or something showed up with a Roush mustang. I was pretty bored and indifferent about it because I like rally cars and economy shitboxes, but it was a little cool. It had active aero which I love in things like the Brataroo and Family Huckster.
My neighbor's dad got drunker as the day went on. He found out that my partner doesn't own a gun, so the dad brought out stuff to shoot with. Birthday boy got priority with the guns, but because I was around, I also got to shoot. An old man brought out his magnum revolver, and I was pressured to shoot it. Honestly, I was pretty nervous. I don't like the weight distribution of a glock, so it made me a little nervous. Turns out that I actually prefer heavier guns. I need the weight in the frame to counter the actual firing. A glock tires out my hand. The revolver was swag. I'd never own a revolver though. I don't think I'm into them that much.
Tried multiple other guns. AR-15 was suuuuper boring. I get its practicality, but it's only useful if the world goes to shit. At the same time, what is it achieving that a cheap milserp rifle wouldn't? Other than cheap parts and ammo. I'm not that into rifles, so I genuinely don't know. I'm sure someone will tell me. I didn't get to shoot the SKS, but I was told that it was fun. The CZ-40 was extremely comfyyyy. My partner and I do like CZs a lot. A 75BD is in our future. The issue with the 40 is that it kept jamming. Something with the mag spring that isn't feeding it correctly. All tip-up jams. It was fantastic when it did shoot. Lastly, I shot a 1911. It was supposed to be the Hellcat, but I am glad that it was a 1911. My partner kept telling me that a 1911 would be too much for me, buuuut it was just fine for me. I want a nice satin steel or nickel-plated 1911 with a wood grip. It's got a stank and attitude to it that I love. I also hate sights on handguns. I get the use of a sight in self defense, but I ain't carrying a gun I like a lot for defense. EDC is something cheap and disposable to me. Actually, my dream EDC isn't as cheap as it ought to be, but it looks good so...
God, talking about guns and vaccines I don't get... I have to make sure you know that I love gun control and science. My thoughts on gun control are more nuanced, but it boils down to 1. they should not be that easy to get and 2. I'm staying armed as long as the pigs of the country are armed. I also don't think people realize that Minnesotans are into guns. We don't have a permit for conceal carry. It's just a permit to carry. People can open carry a handgun if they want, but they don't because we're not fucking crazy about being armed. Plus, no one actually needs to know you're carrying. It only makes things weird. I've only had issues with cops with whining about not being allowed to carry in private businesses. No normal human being acts up about it here.
Anyways, we ended the ultra-American experience by going to a Mexican restaurant in the nearby small town. Obviously, it wasn't super authentic, but it was still really good. It's not those mediocre white people Mexican places too. It was genuinely good. At home, we passed out pretty quickly.
Since then it's been just casual strolls on the few good weather days. There was the No Kings protest at the Capitol. It was fun to interact with the people around us. That's something I've loved about protests as an adult. Everyone is really kind to each other. At the first march in February, it started at a hilly park so to get to the other side, we had to slide down a icy hill. It was cute seeing everyone having fun in a dark time. After that march, people used their signs as sleds.
cute human interactions
I had a few other cute interactions with fellow humans. We went to a fabric store for a project that my neighbor was doing. I wasn't buying any fabric, but I like going. We went to this huge dead stock fabric place called SR Harris. There was a 50% deal or something like that which meant it was super super busy. We didn't know that. Hunted down the needed fabric and went to cut it. There's a self service fabric cutting area where it was busiest. I had a little older lady grab me to help her decide what fabric was better. She was so funny. She was making a shawl-like thing in black. She picked a floral fabric and a sequin fabric. I asked her if she liked sequins, and she said no. Why did she grab a sequin fabric then? I don't know. She then asked me to cut the fabric for her. She knew how to do it, but I can't ever say no to a nice older lady. I am god awful at cutting fabric myself. I was scared that I was going to ruin it. We went back and forth about the yardage, cut it, then she went on her way after thanking me. She was very sweet. She asked if I worked there after it all, and I said no.
At the same fabric place, I saw a big sign that said "MINKY." I thought it was a funny word, so I asked my friend what it was. An different older lady overheard me, and she explained it to me. It's an ultra soft material for babies. I have felt the fabric before, but I didn't know what it was called. I just appreciated that she stopped to explain it to me. I want to learn how to quilt from her. I feel like she holds so much knowledge on the fiber arts.
We went to a Fleet Farm one day (or the same day I don't remember), and an employee overheard us. He joked with us about being a "ragebaiter." He was really nice and charmingly awkward. I love awkward people.
last notes
✦ I'm about halfway through making the things I want to sell. I could easily make more sticker designs, but I gotta get some fun zines done. I also needed time to advertise on other platforms. I got some admin-y things to do.
✦ The first flower has come up in the yard. Cute little purple crocus. The daffodils are starting to come up too. Very exciting.
✦ Finished Andor finally. Not going to say any spoilers here don't worry. I loved it. It made me feel absolute dread, but I love that in media. It's so good that you don't even have to be into Star Wars to enjoy it. Fuck the Mandalorian tbh.
✦ I keep losing nose rings down the sink. I'm so mad about it.
✦ I got sunburnt already. My stupid little chain across my nose left a line.
✦ I've been obsessed with blueberry tea. I did take note of people's favorite teas on my post on Neocities. I will be trying them all eventually. :] I am always looking for more teas to try especially herbal and fruit teas. Vexpians-caving-journal is on the same page with me though. A very strong peppermint tea is the absolute best. I love it when my head hurts, my stomach hurts, or if I'm just chilly.
✦ Also, the migraine/headache advice was very helpful. Whimsical-tendacies said menthols which is something I use myself. I love vaporub when my head hurts. There is this soap maker that sells at the Ren Fest in Minnesota, and they make this peppermint rub that is super similar. It costs soooo much. I didn't buy any last time I was there, but I have used it. It's great.
✦ I'm watching the FUCK out of River Monsters on youtube. I love Jeremy Wade.
✦ Just last night, the beefy pale orange cat we call Hank has appeared. He guards our yard from other cats. He's the sturdiest cat ever.
✦ My partner wanted to see Macbeth at the Guthrie for his birthday. We went with his parents. I knew nothing about it (like most Shakespeare), but I enjoyed it. Shakespeare is funny because it sounds like absolute nonsense for the first 20 minutes then it all makes sense.

april
Not sure what I have planned for April other than the shop and garden. No trips planned or anything. I'm just straight up chillin...
